I work out with Ben, my trainer, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. (10 Good Reasons to Hire a Personal Trainer.) Mondays and Wednesdays are cardio days. Since it is the beginning of the year, the gym is a little more crowded than usual. We go at 5AM – so it isn’t too bad. I did not have a problem getting a machine this morning, I cranked up some music and started moving.
First, I always make sure I warm up before I jump on a machine – I do about 5 minutes of floor stretching.
I like to mix up my workouts, sometimes low intensity, sometimes high. Somedays I spend 10 mins on the bike, then the elliptical, then the treadmill. Today was all treadmill and the workout was high intensity – for me at least.
I am 46 years old – so I don’t pretend that my body can do everything that a 25 year old body can do. I push myself to do what I think works best for me. Today, I used intervals. I moved the incline to 2% and used a combination of running for 1 minute then walking for 2 minutes. I did this for 9 rotations and used the rest of the time to walk and cool down. 30 mins total. My heart was pumping for sure! When I do the 2 mins of walking – I keep a brisk pace – enough to recover and start again.
I think music helps – I have my IPOD loaded with upbeat music. I am old school – so today I was moving to songs like The Eagles – ‘Life in The Fast Lane’ and ‘Get Over It’.
It was a good workout – a good start to the day. Hope whatever you do today makes you feel good!
I am always interested in new workout routines or new music for my workouts. Feel free to post.
